Thursday marks 70 years to the day since the United States dropped the world's first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Three days later it dropped a second on the city of Nagasaki. The devastation is widely believed to have brought an abrupt end to World War Two - with Japan's surrender. But what about the appalling human cost of the bombing? Rupert Wingfield-Hayes reports from Hiroshima. This is a home recording of the bombing of Hiroshima in Japan that took place on August 6, 1945. The report describes some of the event and mentions the origin for the name of the modified B-29 bomber, the Enola Gay. This was probably recorded from WMBD 1470 radio in Peoria, IL.

Who on Earth is exposed to the most ionizing radiation? Check out Audible: http://bit.ly/AudibleVe I'm filming a documentary for TV about how Uranium and radioactivity have shaped the modern world. It will be broadcast in mid-2015, details to come. The filming took me to the most radioactive places on Earth (and some places, which surprisingly aren't as radioactive as you'd think). Chernobyl and Fukushima were incredible to see as they present post-apocalyptic landscapes. I also visited nuclear power plants, research reactors, Marie Curie's institute, Einstein's apartment, nuclear medicine areas of hospitals, uranium mines, nuclear bomb sites, and interviewed numerous experts. Notes about measuring radiation: Sieverts are a measure of 'effective dose' - that means they measure the biologi...

Episode 85 air date January 15 2013 A crazy snowstorm in Tokyo, and a rare Hiroshima photo found...a historian dates-times event by shape of mushroom cloud, and describes the scene as if you were there. Also, Fuku decontamination efforts are becoming more futile, and nuke plants in the US are being closed due to money problems. Also, a rant about the MSM from you tube in response to the 'crazy conspiracy' rant from Anderson Cooper... WARNING GRAPHIC language!! (last 5 min) Thanks Ian you were a great job shadower :)
It's 70 years this week since the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. More of The World's coverage here: http://www.pri.org/tags/hiroshima-generations-memory-passed The bomb killed about 70,000 people instantly. Tens of thousands more died of radiation sickness. We'll be spending some time this week considering how the attack is remembered. Who tells the story of Hiroshima? And who listens?

Japan travel guide to what to do and eat in Miyajima, Hiroshima in a day! Hiroshima is near the bottom of the main island Honshu and a must visit when coming to Hiroshima is the island Itsukushima, more popularly known as Miyajima. It’s one of Japan’s top 3 scenic sights, most famous for its giant torii gate, which at high tide seems to float on the water. Miyajima island is also a great place for a day trip from the Kansai region like Kyoto and Osaka but I would recommend staying in Hiroshima for a few days to explore Hiroshima city and another day for Miyajima island. I started my trip off at Hiroshima station and took a 25 minute train ride to JR Miyajima-guchi station. From there it’s less than a 5 minute walk to the ferry terminal where you will take a 10 minute ferry ride to go t...

Miyajima is a small island located in the southwest of Hiroshima city. The island is most famous for Itsukushima shrine and its giant Torii gate. At high tide, the gate looks like floating on the water. This sight is counted as one of "Three views of Japan" along with Matsushima in Miyagi, and Amanohashidate in Kyoto. The shrine is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
